About the Firm

A practice built around measured judgement.

Quorum Stead was established to serve Malaysian businesses that need sound legal guidance — without the noise that often surrounds it.

Our Story

Quorum Stead was established in Kuala Lumpur by practitioners who had spent their early careers in larger firms and observed a consistent gap: businesses — particularly small and medium enterprises — often struggled to access reliable, affordable legal counsel without being overwhelmed by process or cost.

The firm was founded on a simpler premise: that legal support works best when it is responsive, plain in its communication, and properly scoped to what a client actually needs. We are not structured around billing hours for their own sake. We are structured around understanding your situation and addressing it with the care it warrants.

Our practice spans commercial dispute resolution, ongoing statutory compliance for companies registered under Malaysian law, and advisory work in data protection — three areas where the demands on SMEs are tangible and where good legal support makes a measurable difference.

We are based at Persiaran KLCC in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, and we work with clients across a range of industries and company sizes throughout Malaysia.

Our Mission

"To give Malaysian businesses access to grounded, transparent legal guidance — counsel that serves their actual needs, not a polished version of them."

Clarity over complexity

We explain what matters and why, in language that equips you to make informed decisions.

Proportionate service

The scope and cost of each engagement are matched to the actual requirements of the matter, not padded.

Long-term relationships

We aim to be a firm you return to when your next legal question arises — not a one-off service encounter.

Standards We Uphold

How we maintain consistency and reliability across all engagements

Bar Council Membership

All advocates in the firm hold valid practising certificates issued by the Malaysian Bar and observe the Legal Profession Act 1976 and its associated Rules of Conduct.

Client Confidentiality

All client communications and matter-related information are treated as strictly confidential. Legal professional privilege is maintained across every engagement.

Formal Engagement Letters

Every client engagement is formalised with a written letter setting out the scope of work, fee arrangements, and the basis of the relationship before work commences.

Continuing Professional Development

The team participates in CPD programmes coordinated by the Malaysian Bar, ensuring awareness of legislative amendments, regulatory developments, and current judicial decisions.

Conflict Checks

Prior to accepting any new matter, we conduct a conflict of interest check to confirm that we can act for the prospective client without compromising existing obligations.

Data Handling Practices

Client data and documents are stored and managed in accordance with the PDPA 2010. Digital records are held on access-controlled systems with appropriate security measures in place.

Legal Expertise in Kuala Lumpur

Quorum Stead occupies a deliberate position in the Kuala Lumpur legal market — serving businesses that require qualified, attentive legal support without the overhead that typically accompanies larger practices. Our client base spans trading companies, technology firms, professional service providers, and family-owned enterprises operating under Malaysian law.

Commercial disputes in Malaysia are governed by a well-established civil procedure framework, and navigating it effectively requires familiarity with both the procedural rules and the judicial temperament of the courts. Our litigation work is grounded in direct court experience at the Sessions Court, the High Court, and where necessary, the Court of Appeal.

For company secretarial matters, we work closely with SSM filing requirements under the Companies Act 2016. The administrative burden this places on directors is often underestimated. Our retainer service removes that burden without requiring a full-time in-house function.

The growing complexity of data protection obligations under the PDPA 2010 has created a genuine demand for practical advisory support. Many organisations are aware of the Act but uncertain how it applies to their specific operations. Our advisory engagements are structured to move from diagnosis to actionable response within a clearly defined timeframe.
