Frequently Asked Questions
Common enquiries before engaging our services
How do I begin working with Quorum Stead?
The process begins with an initial consultation where we discuss the nature of your matter, what you are hoping to achieve, and the likely scope of work involved. You can reach us by phone, email, or through the contact form below. We will then advise whether an engagement is suitable and provide a clear outline of next steps.
How long does a commercial litigation matter typically take?
Duration varies considerably based on court scheduling, the complexity of the dispute, and whether the matter can be resolved through negotiation or mediation before trial. Simple matters resolved without trial may conclude within a few months. More complex cases proceeding through the courts of Malaysia may take considerably longer. We provide a realistic assessment during your initial consultation.
What does company secretarial support include on an annual retainer?
The annual retainer covers maintenance of statutory registers, preparation and filing of annual returns with SSM, resolutions for standard changes such as director appointments or share transfers, and proactive monitoring of filing deadlines. We contact you ahead of any submission due date so nothing is missed. Unusual or complex matters outside standard scope would be discussed separately.
Is my organisation required to comply with the PDPA 2010?
The Personal Data Protection Act 2010 applies to organisations processing personal data in connection with a commercial transaction in Malaysia. If your organisation collects, uses, or stores personal data from customers, employees, or suppliers in the course of business, the Act likely applies. Our advisory engagement begins with a gap analysis to clarify where you currently stand.
How are fees structured and communicated?
We discuss fees openly before any engagement is formalised. For company secretarial services, the annual retainer is fixed. For advisory and litigation matters, we provide written cost estimates and update these as the matter progresses. We do not proceed with significant work without your awareness of the associated costs.
Can Quorum Stead assist companies registered outside Malaysia?
Our practice focuses on Malaysian law and Malaysian-registered entities. Foreign companies with a registered presence in Malaysia, or those subject to Malaysian legal proceedings or regulatory requirements, are welcome to enquire. We will advise at the outset whether your matter falls within the scope of our practice.
